Is Growing Grains Economically Feasible for your Farm?
The demand for local grains continues to grow. Maine bakers are looking for local flour, but only a fraction of what local mills are processing is grown in Maine. Not to mention the growing need for local sources of livestock feed. But is growing grains profitable for Maine farmers?Join us on Thursday, April 2, from 4:00- 6:00pm at the Bangor Motor Inn to hear from a panel of experienced Maine farmers who are growing grains. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and get answers. This workshop is free and open to the public. Visit HeartofMaine.org for more information.

The conference will be held at Eastland Park Hotel in Portland, Maine. The conference will be hosted by the Maine Association of RC&D Areas. The theme of this year’s New England Association of RC&D Areas fall conference is “New
England: Feeding Ourselves”. With the steadily increasing demand for local foods and an
increased interest in food safety and security, the New England Association felt it was
appropriate to focus this year’s conference on the region’s local food system.
The conference is formatted to provide participants an opportunity to examine our current food
system, identify the gaps that exist in moving to a strong local food system, and develop actions
that can be taken to move closer to a regional system that benefits both producers and
consumers.
